In the tea card collecting community in Canada and the US, this set of Nabisco cards along with others shows up occasionally, mixed in with Red Rose tea cards. To be honest, this is my favorite Nabisco set. It was issued in Canada in 1964. The set is called Earth-Shaking Events. This relatively common set is represented by 24 cards issued in boxes of Shredded Wheat. Each card features an artistically drawn color image of a horrible natural event. It could be a volcano, or crash, or terrible happening from history. Anywhere in the world, any time, or any place is fair game for a disaster.... The backs of the cards identify the horror depicted on the front. Descriptions are written in both French and English. The cards were distributed three-in-a-box in the 18 oz box. I don't know if there was a 12 oz. box but I assume so. I've never seen an album for the cards or a wall chart. There is nothing about either on the box or cards. The overall print runs were smaller, just because of the lower population in Canada. Because of this the majority of all Canadian non sports cards are harder to come by. What do the cards look like?
Here is a card that represent the 24 card set. They are approximatly 1 7/16" x 2 3/4" per card. A nice graphic depicting
something terrifying or horrendous and on the other side, text describing the scarey event in both English and French. At the end there is
a blurb telling you to collect another set of cards. Collect World Conqueror cards. Free in Nabisco Spoon Size Shredded Wheat. Way
to tell us these cards are great but here is an even better set! ;-) Do you have a list of the different cards?
Of course I do, that's why I made this page. Feel free to click the top and sort the list any way you want. If you see a link then there is a
picture to view. |
What else do we know about the series?
It's Canadian, it's Nabisco, it's 24 cards... What we haven't seen is an album or a wall chart. But we have been lucky to
see an original box. Here is a box from back in the day. Who knew they would survive all these years later. Not me! But I sure am glad it
still exists. Here is a box..., 18 oz. This one says that you get three cards in the box. Makes you wonder how many in
the 12 oz. If you have an image, please send it along. It would be nice to see what's on the back, too. Wanna help?
I bet there are some nice magazine ads about the cards. If you ever run across an ad showing Earth-Shaking Events,
please let me know and we'll put the ad up on this page. This is a great little set to collect. You can get the 24 cards and call it good. The cost of an empty box is insane, $200 to
$300. I'm happy with my complete set. You can keep the box ;-). Last modified: April 17, 2021
